Chapter 2: General Engine Maintenance

Covers baseline adjustment specifications, drive belt and timing belt service, valve clearance, compression and vacuum testing, camshaft/crankshaft oil seals, oil pan removal, cylinder head gasket replacement, and the lubrication/oil filter system. SOHC (XR grade, naturally aspirated) and DOHC Turbo (VR grade, intercooled turbo — our truck) procedures diverge significantly from Section 15 onward and are covered in separate files where the manual splits them.

This chapter is spec-heavy and the source scan has more OCR damage than Chapter 1, especially the summary specification table on printed p.22 and the timing/idle table on printed p.27 (both scrambled) and several diagram-only torque callouts throughout. See each file’s (verify printed p.X) flags before relying on any figure for actual service work.
