Disk Rotor & Rear Drum Inspection

Brake disk thickness measurement

  1. Use a micrometer to inspect disk rotor thickness.
    • Limit: 11.0mm (0.433 in)
    • Replace below: 9.4mm (0.370 in)

Disk rotor run-out

  1. Use a dial gauge to check disk rotor run-out.
    • Limit: below 0.08mm (0.003 in)

Note: check hub run-out before replacing the rotor.

Hub run-out

  1. Attach a dial gauge as shown. Inspect the hub for run-out.
    • Limit: 0.05mm (0.002 in)

For repair or replacement, see the Driveline section of this manual.

Brake pad lining inspection (rear drum shoe)

  1. Measure lining thickness.
    • Limit: 4.9mm (0.193 in)
    • Replace: 1.0mm (0.039 in)

This measurement is for the rear drum brake shoe lining, distinct from the front disk pad thickness spec covered in Caliper Overhaul.

Brake drum diameter

  1. Measure brake drum diameter.
    • Limit: 230.6mm (9.08 in)
    • Replace below: 228.6mm (9.00 in)

Brake lining-to-drum inspection

  1. Place a brake shoe in the drum and rotate the drum. Check for surface binding. If binding occurs, have the drum cut or replace the drum.
