A/T Dealer Level Testing

Applies directly to our truck. Use the Turbocharged rows throughout.

Axle Speed Sensor testing

  1. Locate sensor as shown. Remove connector.
  2. Use an ohm meter and verify readings. Limit: 100-3000 (unit not stated in source — same value/flag as in Automatic Transmission Specifications; verify printed p.182).

Note: Out-of-range units must be replaced.

Valve Body Shift Control Solenoid Valves

  1. Drain ATF fluid.
  2. Remove oil pan.
  3. Disconnect connectors.
  4. Pin #1 to Ground (-) test. Ohm limit: 11-15 Ω (verify — source shows “11-150”; likely an OCR-inserted trailing digit, see note below).
  5. Pin #2 to Ground test. Ohm limit: 11-15 Ω.

Note: Replace failed units as required.

(verify printed p.183-184) — the Pin #1 limit was transcribed as “11-150” and Pin #2 as “11-15”. Given Automatic Transmission Specifications states 11-15 Ω for both Solenoid Coil No.1 & No.2, “11-150” is most likely a duplicate 11-15 Ω with a stray OCR digit — but this is not confirmed.

Solenoid No.3 (Turbocharged) — applies to our truck

  1. Remove Solenoid No.3 connector.
  2. Use an ohm meter to check limits. Ohm limit: 11-15 Ω (verify — source shows “11-150”, same flag as above and consistent with the “11-1502” figure flagged in Automatic Transmission Specifications).

Torque Converter test

Pre-test requirements: Confirm ATF fluids are at proper levels.

  1. Connect an RPM gauge.
  2. Start engine and allow it to warm to operating temperature.
  3. Test both “D” & “R” range using the same method.
  4. Run engine RPM per the stall speed limits below.
Stall speed limitRPM
Non-Turbocharged2700-3300 RPM
Turbocharged (our truck)3500-4100 RPM
  1. If the Torque Converter fails the test, continue to the Fluid Pressure Test below.

Fluid Pressure testing

  1. Locate Oil Pressure Test Plug and remove.
  2. Attach MD998330 & MD998332 oil pressure adapters.
  3. Connect oil pressure gauge and run the line into the vehicle as shown.
  4. Perform the test per the chart below.
RangeNon-TurboTurbo (our truck)
“D” Range, Idle & Stall520-667 kPa (5.3-6.8 kgf/cm²; 75-97 psi)735 kPa (7.5 kgf/cm²; 107 psi)
“R” Range, Idle & Stall1216-1540 kPa (12.4-15.7 kgf/cm²; 176-223 psi)1559 kPa (15.9 kgf/cm²; 226 psi)

Note: If the pressure test fails, replace the Torque Converter and retest.
