Driveshaft: Front-Rear

Applies to all three driveshaft sections on our 4WD drivetrain: front driveshaft, center transfer-case driveshaft, and rear driveshaft.

Components

  1. Front Driveshaft Assembly
  2. Center Transfer Case Driveshaft
  3. Rear Driveshaft

Flange Bolt TorqueT=34 Nm (3.5 kgf·m; 25 ft-lb) — shown at all three driveshaft flange callouts on the diagram

(verified against scan p.193, 2026-08-30) — the printed page’s second table is headed “Item / Oil” with exactly two rows: Driveshaft Yoke Coating = SAE 75/85W (GL-4) and U-Joint Grease = Multi Purpose Axel Grease. The earlier transcription had the yoke coating as grease; the scan shows the GL-4 gear oil belongs to the yoke coating row, not to a transfer-case/differential fill. The T=34 (3.5) torque appears three times on the components diagram, once at each driveshaft’s flange bolts.

Driveshaft warpage measurement

  1. Remove driveshaft.
  2. Place driveshaft in V-blocks as shown.
  3. Set a dial gauge as shown.
  4. Rotate driveshaft and check for warpage.

Limit: 0.6 mm (0.024 in). Replace any driveshaft that is warped out of limit.

Oil seal inspection

  1. Inspect oil seals for cracking or splits. Replace if defective.
  2. Coat with axle grease before installing driveshaft.

U-joint removal, snap-ring installation, and the snap-ring thickness color-code chart are covered in Driveshaft U-Joint Replacement.
