Water Pump
Note: Prior to Water Pump removal, remove the following as described elsewhere in this manual:
- Drain Coolant
- Timing Belt and Accessories
- Alternator Bracket
Removal
After the required components above have been removed, remove the Water Pump attachment bolts.
Note: Do not use a screwdriver to pry on the case — damage may occur. Hold the front of the pump and wiggle the unit until free from the block.
Note: The old gasket must be removed and discarded.
Attachment torque
T = 9 N·m {0.9 kgf·m; 80 in-lb}
Note: A minimum 2.4-3.0mm (0.094-0.118 in) bead of gasket sealant must be applied as shown. Allow the sealant to cure for 2 minutes before attaching to the cylinder block.
Replacement interval note
Replace all water pumps once removed if over 100,000 km (62,137 mi), or if a timing belt replacement is required. It is best recommended to replace both items if one fails.
Applies to both SOHC and DOHC (our truck) — no separate spec given per valvetrain on this page.
