Oxygen Sensor

Organizational note: in the source scan, the DOHC oxygen sensor removal procedure is printed on p.72 under the running page header “Turbocharger System Component Inspection”, and the SOHC procedure is printed on p.74 under the running page header “Exhaust Manifold System SOHC DOHC”. Neither page carries its own “Oxygen Sensor” section header. This file consolidates both procedures under section 31 (Oxygen Sensor) per the chapter contents list; the page headers above are preserved in the source note above and in the per-item citations below so the mapping can be checked against a clean copy.

DOHC oxygen sensor removal

Source: printed p.72, under “Turbocharger System Component Inspection”.

  1. Use tool MD998770 to remove the oxygen sensor as shown.

Note: Take caution not to damage the wire lead. If the wire lead is damaged, the unit must be replaced.

SOHC oxygen sensor removal

Source: printed p.74, under “Exhaust Manifold System SOHC DOHC”.

  1. Use tool MD998770 to remove the oxygen sensor as shown.

Note: Take caution not to damage the wire lead. If the wire lead is damaged, the unit must be replaced.

The SOHC exhaust manifold component removal list (printed p.73) also calls out the oxygen sensor as its first removal step, with the same wire-lead caution: “Oxygen Sensor SOHC: Caution not to damage connector lead.”

Summary

Both DOHC and SOHC procedures use the same special tool (MD998770) and carry the identical wire-lead-damage caution. No torque value or thread sealant note was present on either source page for the oxygen sensor boss itself. (verify printed p.72, p.74) — if a reinstallation torque spec exists for the oxygen sensor, it was not recoverable from this scan; do not guess a value.

Reinstallation torque — RESOLVED (2026-08-30)

The turbocharger-replacement figure (printed p.70–71) carries a direct leader to the oxygen sensor (item 4): T = 44 N·m (4.5 kgf·m; 32 ft-lb) — read visually from a 200 dpi render of the page. See 30-turbocharger-replacement.md for the full resolved torque map. Anti-seize on threads per universal O2-sensor practice (not stated in this manual).
